WTC Footprints To Be Memorialized

In October, 2001 several prominent planners suggested that the footprints of the Twin Towers be preserved. The rest of the nation is catching up.

"'Where the towers stood is hallowed ground,' said Pataki, who has tremendous influence over what happens on the 16-acre trade center site... The size of the memorial has become a focal point in recent weeks for families, who have been upset by Mayor Bloomberg's call for a smaller tribute... Timing is crucial as the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. plans to issue six land-use proposals for the zone next month."
