A small town in Northern Ontario, Canada, annually gives its parking meter revenues over a two-week period to a fund providing aid for low income families over the holidays.
Annually, the small town of Kapuskasing, Ontario, motorists feeding parking meters will essentially be feeding the poor. According to The Kapuskasing Times, a request of the Kinsmen Club prompted the Kapuskasing City Council to devote two weeks, this year from December 8th until December 19th, of parking meter revenues towards the Nalin Mehta Memorial Santa Claus Fund.
In the article, Mayor Alan Spacek of Kapuskasing joked how there would still be parking enforcement for the meters, and the ticketing revenue would also go toward the Memorial Fund. The two week period last year helped raise more than $3,000 for the organization, which helps provide a those in need with a Christmas Day meal and a quality toy for every children.
