John Petro analyzes American Community Survey data to find that suburban areas like Hudson and Suffolk County are adding housing units at a much faster pace than all of New York City except for Brooklyn.
"While New York City has the largest and densest localities within the greater metropolitan area, recent housing growth in the region’s core has been mostly abysmal; in a surprising contrast, suburban localities have seen a similar overall increase, highlighting out-of-date planning policies that are throttling the five boroughs," writes Petro.
