Walmart has met enormous opposition in its attempts to open stores in New York City in the past, but that isn't stopping the big box behemoth. The City Council is hearing new arguments this week.
A meeting planned for today had to be rescheduled because the number of unions and small business leaders opposing Walmart who wanted to attend would max out the meeting room.
Elizabeth A. Harris reports, "Wal-Mart is looking at properties in each of the five boroughs and has hired Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's former campaign manager, Bradley Tusk, to help coordinate its lobbying efforts.
Bill de Blasio, the city's public advocate, predicted, "They're not going to find it easy to get serious public support."
