Boston's Fabled 'Urban Ring' Railway

A decade in the planning, Boston planners have come up with a strategy to created the fabled 'urban ring railway.'

"After four years spent mapping, number-crunching, and surveying, a committee charged with finding a way to create the fabled ''Urban Ring'' railway - think of a mass transit version of Route 128 - will finally wrap up its study on July 31. But the Ring so many had hoped for is no longer in the cards. Instead of a wheel, connecting the spokes of the subway system, the committee now proposes a ''transportation network'' comprising a short subway line, several dedicated ''busways,'' and a dozen crosstown bus lines to fill the gaps."
