Los Angeles cyclists come together to organize "Bike Summer" -- a month long festival of bicycle-related events this June.
"Film screenings, workshops, fun rides, races, scavenger hunts, art shows, pub crawls, athletic contests, poetry readings, music, protests Bike Summer is a freewheeling festival that beckons anyone with two wheels and a tire-pump in the garage to dream up a way to have fun and make friends during the month of June." Bike Summer started in San Francisco in 1998 as a way to boost the spirits of activists exhausted from battles with municipal authorites. Since then the grassroots-organized festival has traveled to a different North American city each year. This summer, defying stereotypical notions that everyone in LA drives, a small group of enthusiastic, forward-looking Los Angeles cyclists are hosting Bike Summer.
