Habitat-Sensitive Golf

"A good walk spoiled" is Mark Twain's famous definition of golf. "A good habitat spoiled" is how some environmentalists and regulatory agencies might describe certain golf courses. And "a good course spoiled" is how some golf course architects might deride the efforts of regulators. Like farmers and cowboys who clashed over the same turf during the opening of the West, it seems that environmentalists and golf developers just cannot get along, even though both groups are lovers of the great outdoors.
