Baldwin Hills' Own Central Park?

Those barren fields of oil wells in Baldwin Hills may become a 700 acre park, larger than Golden Gate Park or Central Park. This is the largest area of undeveloped land in urban LA.

In a growing movement toward the creation of urban open space, activists are seeking to create the Baldwin Hills Park Project around the existing 350 acre Kenneth Hahn state recreation area.Seven million dollars in funding was gained from Prop.A in 1996.This year the state got $32.5 million more. One obstacle is that a prime view parcel is targeted for 240 homes.
