The National Park Service is encouraging development of 80-acres of privately owned land called Hazel Green. The development would provide an 800-space parking lot for Yosemite Valley day-trippers. Developer Destination Villages LLC rustic plans a $25 million rustic, albeit posh resort, where visitors can enjoy a night in a log cottage for $300 or rough it in a tent cabin for $150. Environmentalists say the plan endangers rare Sierra meadowland and the creatures living there.
