Philadelphia’s Department of Aviation is investing $2 billion into modernizing the Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport, the largest reinvestment in the department’s history. Modernizations will include upgrades to the baggage systems, a new automated parking garage guidance system and upgrades to SEPTA platforms at the airports.
“The investment was announced just before J.D. Power’s annual customer satisfaction survey ranked PHL last among large airports in North America for the sixth consecutive year. However, the airport’s overall score improved for the second year in a row as terminal renovations continue,” Jassmyn Nesmith writes for WHYY News.
The initiative to modernize the airports is titled Transform PHL and is funded through airline revenue, federal and state dollars and facility charges, WHYY News reports.
