Nick Andert uncovered the "brazen and unethical behavior" that has mired the Los Angeles International Airport people mover in years of delays and cost overruns.
The long-awaited LAX SkyLink is suffering a familiar story: years behind schedule and so over its anticipated budget that its bond credit rating was recently downgraded to a negative watch list. The elevated automated people mover system intended to relieve the Los Angeles International Airport of traffic was supposed to open years before the 2026 World Cup. Now there is uncertainty whether it will be running for the 2028 Olympics.
But the story behind the fiasco took Hollywood chops to break. The Hollywood Reporter tells the story of Nick Andert — a film and television editor and public transit geek who moonlights as the YouTuber Nandert — whose storytelling intuition led him to unearth a grand jury report from the L.A. County Superior Court investigating what Andert calls "brazen and unethical behavior from the contractors.” He released the findings in a viral exposé.
"With his video, Andert was able to do something that incremental reporting by local news outlets could not — get people to care," writes Oren Peleg in The Hollywood Reporter. “Nithya Raman, the L.A. city councilmember and mayoral candidate, tells THR that she is a fan of Andert’s videos: 'I really appreciate how he’s raised awareness about the problems that have led to the LAX people mover’s delays and massive cost overruns.'"
