Some cities in the Dallas area want to reduce their contributions to the regional transit system.
Officials from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) agency and local city officials will engage in mediation to resolve conflicts over local contributions to the agency, reports Pablo Arauz Peña for KERA News.
Two proposed Texas state bills would reduce member cities’ contributions by 25 percent and restructure the DART board after complaints from suburban communities. “Carrollton, Plano and Irving are among the six DART member cities that passed resolutions last year calling to reduce the agency’s funding. One of those cities, Rowlett, rescinded its resolution last week and voted to support full DART funding.”
According to Arauz Peña, “During the last RTC meeting, leaders from member cities clashed over whether to support the funding legislation as a region; after a sharply split vote, the council decided to stay neutral on the matter. This time, council voted unanimously to move forward with mediation to resolve the issue locally.”
