Community Design Centers (CDCs) provideplanning, design and technical assistance to low- and moderate-incomeurban and rural communities, many of which have limited resources. Thoseinvolved with CDCs thus work for social, economic and environmentaljustice, particularly serving local community-based development needs.This article by Dr. Sheri Blake, published in Time-Saver Standards forUrban Design, reviews the history of CDCs, outlines strategies foreffecting change through CDCs, and reviews key terms that are used inthe discussion.
