New Traffic Lights Punish Speeders By Stopping Them

Pleasanton, California, is implementing smart traffic lights that turn red on speeding vehicles.

After seeing familiar sign that flashes a driver's speed, drivers in Pleasanton, California that continue to speed will be faced with a red light at the next intersection. In a town where commuter traffic is out of control, the technology is questionable; "the light...,is either an inspried leap into the future or a blatant example of government overzealousness." A smiliar light is already being used in Thousand Oaks, California.
