According to an Associated Press article in Pioneer Press, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded over $1 billion to Minnesota and Wisconsin agencies for the reconstruction of the John A. Blatnik Bridge between Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin.

The bridge, originally built in 1961, is part of a major freight corridor between the two states, as well as an important link for trade with Canada.

The project is expected to cost roughly $1.8 billion, and construction could begin in early 2025.
