The Atlanta Housing Authority released a new five-year strategic plan in February, which is organized around six goals to achieve housing affordability:

  • Create or Preserve 10,000 Affordable Housing Units
  • Enhance Housing Assistance Resources for Atlantans in Need
  • Create Opportunities for Individuals, Families, and Children to Thrive
  • Build or Expand Partnerships to Pool Resources and Maximize Impact for the Benefit of Families
  • Communicate the Impact of AH’s Work to Atlanta
  • Strengthen Atlanta Housing Operations

The Atlanta Housing Strategic Plan is available to read online. An article by Mark Lannaman, linked below, provides insight into the report’s goals and the tools Atlanta Housing will use to get there.

One interesting historical footnote included by Lannaman explains that “Atlanta was the first major city in the United States to have public housing in the early 20th century. Since then, it has demolished nearly all of it.”
