The city says water conservation programs and customer cutbacks have resulted in a drop in water usage.

Officials say that water consumption is down in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reports Theresa Davis. Per capita daily use is four gallons less than a year ago, more than the original goal of one gallon.
"The city offers rebates for residents to update home appliances and install xeriscape landscapes that use water more efficiently. Albuquerque also uses a ‘water by the numbers’ program that allows residents to choose which days to water their yards," writes Davis.
The city is also applying for a Bureau of Reclamation grant that would be used to build infiltration ponds to help boost aquifer levels. "Recharging the aquifer is part of the Water 2120 plan to address the city’s future water needs," notes Davis.
