Housing prices are on the rise in the North Shore neighborhood as the area near downtown grows.

Courtney Linder reports that Pittsburgh’s North Shore, with its various sports and entertainment venues, differs from similar areas in other cities because a relatively small number of residents are located there.
"In other words, there is no true stadium neighborhood in Pittsburgh — the next-best options are living Downtown in the Cultural District along Penn Avenue or farther into the North Side where you may see some light pollution from Steelers home games, but don’t expect to feel the rumbling of excited fans on the bleachers," writes Linder.
Developers say they plan to start building housing adjacent to PNC Park and at the site of the former Civic Arena, and home prices are on the rise in the wider North Side area, notes Linder. The downtown-area housing offers amenities such easy access to entertainment and public transportation. Still, some residents say the tradeoff is dealing with increasing housing costs, loud noise, and less available parking.
