The U.S. Forest Service has completed a management plan for the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, and is ready to commence implementation.

Steve Scauzillo reports on a new monument management plan for the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, completed by the U.S. Forest Service four years after Preident Barack Obama set aside 342,175 acres of the Angeles National Forest and 4,030 acres of the San Bernardino National Forest for the new national monument.
The plan calls for "three additional critical habitat zones within the San Gabriel Mountains" and a "public transportation system leading in and out of the Angeles National Forest," according to Scauzillo. The management plan also outlaws mining activity.
The final version of the plan builds on a 2016 draft of the plan that was criticized as "toothless." Another draft of the plan was released in April 2018.
