Self-storage facilities have been popping up around Denver long before Marie Kondo's show streamed on Netflix.

Joe Rubino reports: "Thirty-seven self-storage facilities opened in the 10-county Denver metro area in 2018, bringing the total operating today to 339, according to data and analytics firm STR. That count doesn’t even include Boulder County."
Denver isn't alone in its self-storage boom. According to Rubini, "commercial real estate data firm Yardi Matrix is tracking more than 2,000 self-storage projects nationwide." Still, self-storage grew faster in Denver than any of the markets tracked by Yardis.
The self-storage facilities aren't always welcome, and some cities in the region are acting on the "consternation" of residents about the facilities. "Three metro area cities, Arvada, Parker and Denver itself, adjusted their municipal codes over the last three years to clamp down on where self-storage facilities can be built," according to Rubino. New York City took debated setting limits on the construction of self-storage facilities back in 2017.
