Recorded hate crime offences on the London's transport network have increased by 36 per cent.
Transport for London is offering free training for passengers to intervene as "active bystanders" while witnessing hate crimes on the transit system. Recorded offences have increased totaled 2,396 between January and August of this year, an increase of 36%.
"The sessions are part of a broader campaign to encourage 'active bystander' intervention and form part of TfL's activities during National Hate Crime Awareness Week, running from October 10 to 17," London Now reports. The training encourages riders to "Act Like a Friend" when witnessing offences, aiming to establish this approach as a recognised "social code" for public transport users.
