The Kansas City streetcar saw its average daily ridership double after the system added its Main Street extension at the end of October, according to a report in Progressive Railroading.
According to the article, “The Main Street extension added 3.5 miles of track and 16 stops, from the previous terminus at Union Station to the University of Missouri-Kansas City.” Since its launch, the streetcar’s ridership rose from 4,000 daily passengers to 10,000 on weekdays and from 7,000 to 14,000 on weekends.
The streetcar, which is fare-free, is running between seven and nine trains per day to accommodate increased demand.
