A new framework from the State Smart Transportation Initiative dubbed Innovative DOT offers a guide for state transportation agencies, providing 34 specific recommendations for enhancing transportation efficiency and succeeding in a rapidly changing landscape.
According to Transportation for America, who consulted on the project, “This comprehensive resource covers everything from planning to operations and agency culture. It shows how your agency can build a path to resilience while implementing policies and practices that prioritize people over cars.”
The guide highlights the ‘fix it first’ approach that advocates for dedicated funding for maintenance and repair of transportation infrastructure.
