Five rural communities will receive $15 million under a new law designed to assist rural areas in developing their infrastructure.
A new Florida law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis will expand the state’s Rural Infrastructure Fund program, awarding over $15 million to five rural communities, according to an article by Samantha Neely in the Fort Myers News-Press. Based on the law, HB 1209, counties considered “fiscally constrained” could have their entire project costs covered by the state.
Neely writes that “Awards for the RIF program include millions to two northern counties and three cities sprinkled throughout the state.” Projects receiving funding include a wastewater treatment plant in Suwanee County, water and wastewater treatment facilities in Jackson County, and stormwater and other water treatment upgrades in the cities of Macclenny, Fort Meade, and Umatilla.
