"A bold proposal to create a unified school bus system in one Detroit neighborhood would be an unprecedented step toward getting cooperation between charter schools and traditional public schools in a city in which the two sectors have typically waged a battle for students," reports Lori Higgins

In effect, the proposal would create a unified bus system that would loop around neighborhoods in the northwest part of the city to "transport charter and DPSCD students to and from school, to child care and to after-school programs in an area that is now served by 11 schools." Higgns also adds that the city chose the northwest of the city to launch the program "because it has a concentration of both traditional public schools and charters and is an area where many students don't attend city schools."

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan pitched the unified bus system in his State of the City address earlier this week.
