Renters have new protections in a quickly growing city with more and more pressure on rental prices.

David Kroman reports on "tough new tenant protections" approved by the Seattle City Council on Monday, June 6, 2016. "Someday, groups like the Rental Housing Association of Washington (RHWA) may sue the city over what is known as the 'Carl Haglund law,' which forbids landlords from raising rents until they bring their properties up to standards," according to Kroman's introduction of the new law.
Kroman describes the new law as "the most significant tenant protection measures passed in the last year" and also notes that Councilmember Kshama Sawant has promised even more to come.
