Long Beach, CA approved a policy that protects existing city parks and compensates lost park space with open space elsewhere in the city.
"The ambitious parks plan also sets a goal for Long Beach to acquire more than 1,000 new park acres within city limits. That would bring the city's open space total to 8 park acres per 1,000 residents, a ratio that has slid over time."
