The State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) tentatively ruled that the proposed 75-yearwatertransfer from Imperial Valley farmers to San Diego households canproceed.The state regulators, however, want the biologically-diverse Salton Seatobe protected for the next 15 years from the likely increased salinitycaused by the water transfer. But to the dismay of Salton Sea residentsandenvironmentalists, regulators did not call for protection against theduststorms that may occur when farmland is fallowed and the shoreline of theSalton Sea recedes.
