"While researching a forthcoming book, tentatively titled "The Postwar Home: Design, Desire and Domesticity," [University of Illinois professor discovered that] it wasn't just real estate agents who were responsible for denying access to non-whites.'They were shut out of the housing market by lending institutions, restrictive covenants, even the federal government itself by the Federal Housing Authority,' which was making loans available to a wave of first-time home-buyers."
