Temperatures in Tokyo are rising at four times the pace of global warming - 3 degrees in the 20th century - and the city's climate is increasingly tropical rather than temperate. This rise in temperature is being blamed on an increase in development - this is creating more heat from air conditioning and from heat retaining materials - and on more and more high rise blocks cutting off cooling sea breezes.
