"If Britain's experience is any guide, privatizing public transportation is not as simple as waving a magic wand... Since the former Conservative government began privatizing British Rail in 1993, the system has been beset by at least as many problems as it had when it was owned and operated by the government. Service has become unreliable, fares have risen, and a spate of fatal crashes has raised concerns about safety."
