What Makes a City Global?

Finding the existing frameworks for describing "global cities" to be highly divergent, Aaron Renn suggests his own and requests feedback to continue improving the scheme.

According to Aaron Renn, "the definitions of global cities are incredibly varied and there doesn’t seem to be a consensus or well-defined way to think about [them]. I looked at the criteria used in various prominent studies back in 2012 and found them highly divergent."

Renn goes on to suggest his own framework for defining global cities, which measures in three categories: economic function, non-economic function, and size.

So far, Renn's framework has sparked productive conversation on the site's comment board, and the post is clearly intended to inspire more discussion.
