Maricopa County, Arizona gained more residents in the last 15 months than any other county in the U.S.
"Maricopa County's population stood at an estimated 3.2 million July 1, the Census Bureau reported Monday, an increase of more than 122,000 since the official census in April 2000, or about 185 a day... To keep up with roads and freeways, planners want voters to extend by 20 years a half-cent transportation sales tax set to expire in 2005. Anderson said the money is needed to finish the freeway system and, perhaps more important, to improve the Valley's surface streets, which still carry up to two-thirds of area's traffic."
