A State Capital Without A Hotel

"Trenton is a small city, 85,000 people in eight square miles engulfed by a landscape of the new and the outsized: McMansions, S.U.V.'s and malls and big-box clusters that sponge up the area's considerable disposable income... As the state remade the downtown, it razed town houses and elegant if faded commercial buildings, replacing them with government-issue cement architecture. Each building was used by hundreds of workers, but each would empty by dark... Still, Trenton is taking a step toward normalcy, toward acting like the other state capitals."
