"Developers and land use experts said Gaithersburg is a rare example of a city establishing separate town centers within its 10 square miles... The Gaithersburg Old Towne shopping area dates to 1878. A corner drugstore remains after decades, alongside Latino grocery stores that have opened in the last few years to serve the city's growing Hispanic population.Less than two miles away is the Washingtonian Center, which started to develop a Main Street-like concept with such stores as Target and Galyan's in 1996. A few miles away is Kentlands, which has three shopping areas with storefronts that are designed to get people out of their cars to walk."
