Amazon.com has compiled its third annual list of the 20 'most well-read' cities in America. The results may surprise you.

For the second year running, Alexandria, Virginia can claim to be home to America's biggest bibliophiles, reports Matt Peckham. According to Amazon, their ranking are determined “by compiling sales data of all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format since June 1, 2012, on a per capita basis in cities with more than 100,000 residents.”

Knoxville, Miami, Cambridge, and Orlando round out the Internet retailer's top five.
