As communities struggle to find new land for schools, many schools are being built near toxic waste sites.

"Hundreds of thousands of children throughout the country are attending schools that were built on or near toxic waste sites, puttingthem at increased risk of developing asthma, cancer, learning disorders and other diseases linked to environmental pollutants,according to a new study." As the U.S. school population continues to expand, the country is projected to need at least 2,400 new schools in the next few years.
