Seattle Monorail Costs Top $1 Billion

Proponents say the 14-mile monorail system can be built faster and cheaper than light rail.

""This project is being done in the shadow of Sound Transit," said Peter Sherwin, author of Initiative 53, the pro-monorail measure approved by voters in 2000... Sherwin, like many monorail supporters, is a Sound Transit critic who predicts monorail can be built cheaper and better than light rail. He noted that the monorail's costs look even better considering that it must cross two waterways — something the first segment of light rail won't do."
