For the next few days, America's eyes will be on the East Coast, where a historic storm is already making its presence felt. Quartz has posted a list of webcams to provide you with a first-hand experience of the storm, from the safety of your desk.
"Webcams date to an earlier era of the internet: the very first one,
in 1991, was pointed at a coffee pot in a computer lab at Cambridge
University," says Zachary M. Seward. "But the tradition lives on in various corners of the web,
which comes in handy when, say, an enormous storm is barreling toward
the East Coast of the United States."
Seward and his colleagues have collected an impressive list of live cameras streaming Hurricane Sandy's arrival, and aftermath, from up and down the East Coast.
