"When the new train station in downtown Frederick opens today, as part of a 13.5-mile extension of the MARC commuter rail, it will be far less grandiose than those ambitious plans promised...But for a fast-growing city with even faster-growing transportation problems, today's launch of the first expansion of MARC rail service in 10 years represents what local leaders say is a major leap forward: a direct rail connection to Washington, and a sense that the city's infrastructure is beginning to reflect the realities of its booming population."
