Manuel "Matty" Moroun has spent millions cleaning up Michigan Central Depot, cleaning out debris and hiring architects and feasibility experts to figure out how much of the building is worth saving.
Maroun is mired in a controversy over a public project upgrading connections to the Ambassador Bridge, and some say the Central Depot cleanup is P.R. ploy. Over the weekend, officials and local entrepreneurs got a tour of the efforts.
Louis Aguilar reports from the walkthrough:
"Even at this stage, when it's mainly just empty, it's remarkably beautiful and inspiring," said State Rep. Fred Durhal, D-Detroit, who took the Saturday tour. "I'm convinced the Morouns and the others involved will find a new use for that station. There is no doubt they are serious about it."
