Architectural Digest highlights films where the architectural setting plays a larger role than most of the people, from the futuristic (Blade Runner) to the contemporary (The Ghost Writer).
Architectural Digest editors sought out movies where the architecture "becomes the whole point of watching."
The Ghost Writer, directed by Roman Polanski last year, centers around a Tony Blair-like character hiding out in a blustery New England beach locale. The writers note that the interiors "...were created by set designer Albrecht Konrad, who had them constructed at a Berlin film studio", and the exteriors were actually shot at a location on the Baltic Sea.
