Speaking at the New Partners for Smart Growth Conference last week, Duany said that he fears developers will give up on building sustainably because of overly onerous infrastructure costs required by LEED and other systems.
Andre Shashaty reports from Charlotte, North Carolina, where the conference was being held:
""It costs more to get a project certified under the LEED for neighborhoods (LEED-ND) program than it does for me to design it," he said.
He called on the green building movement to adopt a dual approach, with one set of low tech standards and one set of high tech standards."
