Thanks to new 21st century technology, the old, humble bus may become the fastest route to the office.
"Buses are getting high-tech makeovers that speed them past other traffic under the guidance of computer-aided dispatching systems,.. which could allow some buses to offer the efficiency of trains combined with the convenience of taxis. 'When you start to apply computer technology, the picture changes,' says Matthew Rabkin, a researcher at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Mass. 'For the first time, people are going to start looking at the bus as a viable alternative to rail lines and cars.'"
