Friday, May 14, 2010
Figueroa Courtyard
261 South Figueroa Street, Suite 100
Los Angeles, CA 90012
9am-4:30pm

Overview:
Urban design sits at the intersection of urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture. The seminar examines the principles, practices, and value of good urban design, focusing on both private development and public improvements (streetscapes, public buildings, and spaces). Instruction addresses the tools and processes that planners, architects, city staff, and developers can use to achieve high-quality urban design through regulatory and policy documents, design guidelines and standards, and the development and design review processes. Participants explore urban design applications and tools in different contexts (redevelopment, downtown revitalization, infill, transit-oriented development, and new suburban development) as well as public processes for developing a community's urban design strategy.

Speakers:
Woodie Tescher, Principal Technical Director/Planning + Urban Design, PBS&J, Los Angeles
Kate Diamond, FAIA, Principal, NBBJ
Deborah Murphy, Principal and Urban/Design Manager, Deborah Murphy Urban Design + Planning
