Lawful adult-oriented businesses have their place in communities -- provided such uses conform with the limits on commercial speech.
"This report breaks new ground on an issue that has generated scores of court cases throughout the country during the past several years," said APA Executive Director Frank So, FAICP. "Planners Eric Damian Kelly and Connie Cooper offer communities defensible ways to walk the fine line between restricting where and how such businesses operate without interfering with their constitutional rights under the First Amendment." The report also dispels several myths and misconceptions about such businesses. The public often mistakenly thinks all adult- and sexually oriented businesses are the same, when actually there are many different types.
