The EPA has opened the application period for its EnvironmentalJustice Small Grants Program.
A total of $1.5 million is available,in grant amounts ranging from $15,000 to $20,000. There is nocost sharing requirement. In awarding grants, preference will begiven to community and grassroots organizations working onlocal environmental problems. Applications are due March 9, 2001.The Office of Environmental Justice's Small Grants Program was established in 1994 to provide financial assistance to eligible community groups (i.e., community-based/grassroots organizations, churches, schools, other non-profit organizations, local governments, tribal governments that are working on or plan to carry out projects to address environmental justice issues.
