In San Francisco, proximity to public transit has become a major factor in purchasing a home.
"David Silbert and Rebecca Sullivan ended up in the East Bay, buying a house two blocks from Oakland's Rockridge BART station for slightly less than $1 million, and harboring few regrets of having to say goodbye to San Francisco as a place to live. "We liked the neighborhood," Silbert said of his new digs on Chabot Road, "but the principal reason for buying there was the availability of BART. It's a nice walk in the morning, and it's an easy ride into the city."
