The Acela Express servicewill zip along from Washington to New York to Boston, reaching top speeds of150 mph. Tickets go on sale to the public on November 29 and service beginsDecember 11. Amtrak says the non-stop run between Washington and New Yorkwill take 2 hours, 28 minutes, with the second leg, New York to Boston,scheduled for 3 hours, 15 minutes. The Acela Express is the fastest train inAmtrak's 29-year history. State and federal officials are working to expandpassenger rail service throughout the U.S. and pass legislation to create 10high-speed corridors in 28 states.
