The US Conference of Mayors and the Mortgage BankersAssociation of America announced both a five point plan for cityreinvestment and the release of a nationwide poll that found both urbanand suburban residents support investing tax dollars in therevitalization of cities. This runs counter to the belief that citiesand suburbs differ in their attitudes toward housing, transportation, and other development issues. For example, the poll found that 68% ofcity residents and 66% of suburban residents said that rebuilding citiesand depending more on public transit is the best way to reduce sprawland traffic congestion. The five point plan includes a Washington D.C. summit to establish anational policy proposal on city reinvestment, addressing issues such asmixed use development, affordable housing, and traffic congestion. The poll measured the attitudes of residents in seven cities in theU.S.: Atlanta, Boston, New Orleans, Phoenix, San Jose, St. Louis andWashington, D.C.
